Submitted by James S. GreeneThe Harlan Independent School District is preparing to celebrate its centennial in 2011 along with the centennial of Harlan High School in 2009. As part of our centennial project, we are hoping to publish a picture history of the school district and its school. We are also going to establish an archives room/museum in our Community Learning Center where memorabilia can be stored and displayed. As Rosenwald was an important part of our story, we need your help. The district office has almost nothing in the way of Rosenwald memorabilia. We have two yearbooks, a handful of photographs, and a typewritten history that was written some years ago. We need your help to change that situation. We need yearbooks, photos, school papers, programs, and other school-related materials. We welcome donations of originals or copies; we also welcome loans. With advance notice, we can arrange to copy or scan materials and return them to the owner. We would greatly appreciate it if you would circulate this request among your membership. For further information, please contact James S. Greene, Supervisor of Instruction, by phone at (606) 573-8700, by This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , or by regular mail at Harlan Independent School District, 420 E. Central Street, Harlan, KY 40831. Please assist us with this project which will allow us to share our proud history now and for years to come. |
