Who We Are Print E-mail

The Rosenwald-Harlanites were incorporated in 1977, in a combined effort by many alumni, friends, descendants, and their families to preserve the legacy that provided the educational, community, family, ethnic and religious "roots" of many awesome African-Americans from an economically deprived coal mining region.

Rosenwald was a segregated and consolidated school for African-American youth in a small appalachian region of southeastern Kentucky. The school funded in part by the Julius Rosenwald Foundation, was opened in 1919, graduated it's last class in 1963, and finally closed their doors for good in 1965.

The goal of this web site is to provide updates on chapter and national executive committee news, scholarship awards, reunions, and information of general interest to descendants of Rosenwald-Harlanites and their families.
